30. dubna 2021

The new ŠKODA FABIA in its fourth generation presents a striking design, bigger interior, increased comfort and, thanks to advanced safety and assistance systems, even greater levels of safety. The world premiere of the new ŠKODA FABIA will take place on 4 May.

WORLD PREMIERE

Curtain up for the new ŠKODA FABIA: Next Tuesday, 4 May at 19:00 CEST, ŠKODA AUTO will be unveiling the fourth generation of its successful small car. The DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague will serve as a spectacular backdrop for the entirely digital world premiere. ŠKODA fans worldwide can move freely through a virtual pavilion and discover fascinating details about the ŠKODA FABIA’s success story.

Two of the design sketches show the clear, modern and dynamically drawn lines of the new ŠKODA FABIA. The fourth generation will be 111 millimetres longer and 48 millimetres wider than its predecessor. This is the first time the new FABIA will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0. In addition to even more space for passengers, this also adds an extra 50 litres to the boot. The diagonal front view offers a first glimpse of the flat front headlights and the wide ŠKODA grille, which has a sporty, elegant look with a chrome frame and black ribs. Large wheels also enhance the powerful appearance. The elongated roof spoiler with side finlets ensure excellent aerodynamics along with the aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors and actively adjustable cooling shutters in the front bumper’s lower air inlet.

The other two sketches give a more detailed impression of the new ŠKODA FABIA’s modern light units. The modules resemble blocks of ice in the sharply cut full-LED front headlights, which extend up to the ŠKODA grille. An L-shaped daytime running light module can be seen, as well. ŠKODA’s signature crystalline elements can also be found in the graphics of the distinctly flat rear lights that will be available in a full-LED version.

The extra room creates a more spacious atmosphere for passengers. The symmetrically designed instrument panel with its central, free-standing display and a coloured horizontal decorative trim accentuates the width of the interior, and the character line beneath the display mirrors the ŠKODA grille. Large round air outlets on the right and left create new accents, as do the coloured elements in the centre console and door handles along with the newly designed chrome door openers. One of the design sketches also reveals prominent FABIA lettering on the side of the instrument panel.

The large, free-standing display dominates the aesthetic of the new ŠKODA FABIA’s interior. The touch screen enables the modern infotainment systems as well as many other vehicle functions to be controlled with ease. The design sketch also shows the customisable Virtual Cockpit, which is a key feature of larger ŠKODA models and is now making its debut as an option for the FABIA.

„Boasting an emotive design language, the new FABIA is a true ŠKODA at first glance. Compared to its predecessor, we have significantly improved the interior – offering a high level of comfort, advanced infotainment and innovative assistance systems. An even more spacious interior, engines that are as efficient as they are powerful, and excellent handling round off the car’s appeal. Our new entry level model has everything you could want from a modern small car – and more.“
Johannes Neft, ŠKODA Board Member for Technical Development

“ŠKODA has consistently continued to develop its design language with the new FABIA. The compact hatchback is particularly sporty and elegant visually. Sculptural lines, dynamic proportions and modern light units with LED technology and the crystalline structures typical of ŠKODA make for a dynamic and modern appearance.”
Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design

Small car with cult status

Since its premiere in 1999, the FABIA has been uniting ŠKODA’s brand values. It combines great levels of active and passive safety with a generously sized interior and excellent value for money. It also offers compact exterior dimensions, efficient powertrains and numerous Simply Clever features. The FABIA perfectly meets the needs of young families or young professionals, and makes an ideal second car. Among the current ŠKODA models, it has been part of the brand’s line-up the second longest. It is therefore an important face of the brand with cult status and a loyal customer group. Now the fourth-generation FABIA is set to continue this success story.

Full LED headlights and tail lights, Virtual Cockpit and new colours

Clear-cut headlights, which extend to the radiator grille, characterise the front view of the new FABIA. Even the standard variant features modern LED technology; full LED headlights with a comprehensive range of functions are available on request. A full LED variant is also available as an option for the tail lights, which feature crystalline structures typical of the brand. The new interior design of the ŠKODA FABIA enhances the small car’s feeling of spaciousness even further. The symmetrical instrument panel with its central, free-standing display, and the horizontal, differently coloured decorative strips (depending on the trim line), emphasise the width of the interior. Furthermore, the Virtual Cockpit is making its FABIA debut. From market launch, the three familiar trim lines Active, Ambition and Style will be available, offering new colours and materials.

First ŠKODA FABIA based on the MQB-A0 platform

The influence of the MQB-A0 platform on the vehicle proportions can be seen in the FABIA’s new dimensions. Despite the increase in size, the ŠKODA engineers have succeeded in maintaining the weight close to that of the third-generation model.

DEMANDING ENDURANCE TESTS

ŠKODA engineers are putting the finishing touches to the fourth-generation FABIA. They are simulating various driving situations, putting the new small car through its paces and fine-tuning it on a secret test track. Computer simulations are also being used to ensure the best possible driving safety, optimum aerodynamics and maximum driving comfort.

ŠKODA AUTO has once again improved the active and passive safety of the new FABIA and expanded the range of assistance systems and connectivity services available. The new FABIA’s safety and comfort features also include assistance systems that were previously reserved exclusively for higher vehicle classes. Fuel consumption and emission values have been significantly reduced compared to the predecessor thanks to several ingenious aerodynamic refinements. The drag coefficient has also been reduced from cw 0.32 to cw 0.28, making the FABIA the best in the small car segment.

A SUCCESS STORY CONTINUES

Two MPI petrol engines and three TSIs with direct injection

With a portfolio of five efficient petrol engines (from 48 kW to 110 kW) to choose from, and its agile handling, the new ŠKODA FABIA is ideally equipped to cover both short and long distances. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for urban traffic. All five engines are from Volkswagen Group’s new EVO generation and for the most part offer a combined fuel consumption of approximately five litres per 100 km in the WLTP cycle. If coupled with the optional 50-litre tank, instead of the standard 40-litre fuel reservoir, this results in ranges of more than 950 km. With the introduction of the new generation, the ŠKODA FABIA is now also available with a new top-of-the-range engine. The 1.5 TSI produces 110 kW (150 PS) from its four cylinders and is combined with a 7-speed DSG as standard.

Lowest drag coefficient within its segment

Compared to its predecessor, the FABIA’s drag coefficient (cd) has dropped from 0.32 to 0.28, making it the most aerodynamically efficient small car in its segment. The aerodynamics have been improved using highly accurate CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations. The numerous innovative details developed include actively adjustable cooling shutters in the front bumper’s lower air intake.

Excellent active and passive safety

The car’s occupants are protected by up to nine airbags in the event of an accident. Additional ISOFIX anchors and top tether anchor points are available and also, for the first time, for the front passenger seat. Its comprehensive safety equipment makes the FABIA one of the safest vehicles in its segment.

13 new Simply Clever features

For many years, ŠKODA has been making everyday life that little bit easier for its customers with a constant stream of new and ingenious Simply Clever features. The new FABIA continues this tradition and, in its fourth generation, offers no fewer than 13 new solutions, some of which have found their way into the FABIA for the first time from other ŠKODA models. The new-generation FABIA offers a total of 43 Simply Clever features.

FIRST GLIMPSE OF THE NEW FABIA

ŠKODA gives a first preview of the fourth-generation FABIA. In a silhouette image, the roofline hints at the new proportions of the small car, which is based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0 for the first time. This platform enhances the interior space and supports the use of state-of-the-art assistance systems and connectivity features. The new FABIA is powered by the latest generation of petrol engines, making it perfect for young families and recent graduates or as an ideal second car. The world premiere of the new ŠKODA FABIA is set for spring 2021.

With the changeover to the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-A0, the ŠKODA FABIA is larger than its predecessor in all dimensions. For example, the boot volume, which was already one of the FABIA’s highlights, has grown by a further 50 litres. Thanks to an even more rigid body structure, the MQB-A0 also brings further improvements in passive safety as well as the option of installing numerous modern assistance systems, which were previously only available in higher vehicle classes.

Modern petrol engines ensure high efficiency and long range: ŠKODA has opted for state-of-the-art petrol engines for the fourth-generation FABIA. All the engines come from the Volkswagen Group’s EVO engine generation and combine high efficiency with low emissions. The new ŠKODA FABIA always comes with front-wheel drive, with a manual gearbox or automatic 7-speed DSG. This means the small car is optimally equipped for journeys in the city as well as for long distances.
